I’ve done this with my kids. We also wrap the whole thing in some newspaper for extra insulation. The ice cream comes out a bit grainy but the kids don’t care; they think it’s great to make their own!

I used to make this at birthday parties when I was in grade school! The flavor was interesting and it always got a little salt in it, but it tasted great to us because we made it with our own sweat and tears.
