Cucina Italiana, Killarney

Cucina Italiana, Killarney It’s not always easy to eat well in Killarney, but my sister and I were quite impressed by Cucina Italiana, a tiny restaurant hidden away at 17 St. Anthonys Place, a tiny lane off College Street. I had heard very positive reviews here and there from various people, and I would go a step further and say that there are few places in town where you could eat better. My main dish of grilled tuna was the best I have had in a long while. Especially don’t miss it if you like Italian food…

  1. I am from Australia and visited Killarney last July. I work in the food industry in Australia and have been to many restaurants around the world. A standout is CUCINA ITALIANA in Killarney. Wow !!! Gnocchi made properly by an amazing Italian chef with IRISH potatoes and a simple fresh tomato and basil sauce. Simple, wonderful, fresh ingredients absolutely AMAZING. COMPLIMENTI !!!!

I was actually visiting the Ring of Kerry and had the pleasure of meeting two lovely girls from Bologna during the tour. They commented that they had not eaten Italian food since they had arrived three weeks before. I made enquiries at the hotel (Malton) and a gorgeous Polish girl smiled and gave us directions down the back streets to a tiny restaurant that was buzzing. She was right. As Italians know, the Bolognese have a reputation as some of the best cooks in Italy. The girls were impressed. The gnocchi were followed by a simple arrosto and vegetables that were once again absolutely sublime in their simplicity and flavour.

I don’t think that I am exagerating when I say that this tiny restaurants is one of the hidden wonders of the culinary world. I’ll be back !!!

  2. Went to cucina italiana last august and i’m sorry but this is not the food you find in restaurants around Italy.
Got seabass with sauteed spinach and the fish was not cooked properly.
Poor service (20 min. to get a glass of wine and the restaurant was not busy) and very expensive.
I don’t think I will recommend this restaurant to my friends.

  3. THIS RESTAURANT WAS A COMPLETE DISAPPOINTMENT. WAS RECOMMENDED BY A FRIEND. THE FOOD WAS VERY ORDINARY, THE SERVICE MINIMAL. WE SAT UPSTAIRS AND WERE PUT IN A WALKWAY AREA WHERE WE HAD CHAIRS AND TABLES CONSTANTLY LIFTED OVER OUR HEADS AND THE STAFF SQUEEZING BY EVERY COUPLE OF MINUTES – VERY DISRUPTIVE! PASTA WAS TASTELESS AND BLAND AND UPON LEAVING NOT A WORD WAS SAID TO US. TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY! THEY NEED TO IMPROVE THEIR COOKING AND SERVICE SKILLS BIG TIME

  4. Amazing Cucina Italiana. The restaurant has definately not slipped and maybe it is time for the others to improve on their eating. As a food connossieur, I would like to clarify that Italian food does consist of fish and spinach, Italians are known for their fish. The menu was diverse and the method of cooking to be divine. Kieren, don’t believe eveything you read, go back to Cucina Italiana and try again, if you found the first time to be amazing then it only gets better.

  5. I am not sure why I picked this place for a Sunday dinner. My fiance’ picked main meal seafood pasta that was tasty, but not fresh and not worth the €30.00.! Now I know why this restaurant is not very busy! Kind of embarrassing that I am Italian and diners would think this is authentic Italian, but it is definitely not. Try some of the other great restaurants in the town.
