There are many people who think that there is difficult to eat out well in Killarney. For the most part, I agree, perhaps because there has been little incentive for restaurants to change or improve. There are just a handful of places that I know of that are good value and interesting.
Lunch at the Park Hotel bar is an old standby and definitely recommended, and besides that it’s worth looking at some of the ethnic entries into the restaurant market. One of the benefits to the New Ireland with its immigration is the proliferation of ethnic cuisine.
The best of the Chinese is the rather tragically named Jungle Bell that is hidden away in the Inisfallen Centre off Main Street. It’s quite a bargain and a good find for those who don’t want to spend a fortune.
Just opposite and up the stairs is an excellent Thai restaurant, Genting Thai. I’m regularly in there for the phad thai.
If you feel like cooking ethnic at home, also in the Inisfallen Centre is an Asian and African market that’s definitely worth a look.
The best of the Indian restaurants is the very popular Bombay Palace on College Street, and you couldn’t go to wrong eating there.
There certainly are other places to eat, and I’ll come back to this later. It’s definitely worth doing your research!

I had a very interesting, tasty and reasonably priced early bird in the Killarney Plaza around Christmas time, which is a handy spot. The interior was very reminiscent of the Porterhouse in Glasnevin, so maybe they’re owned by the same crowd.
Killarney is confusing now. When I used to go hiking there in my teens, it was a totally different place. I can’t believe how many hotels there are now, not all of which add particularly to the aesthetic appeal of the town, especially on the Muckross road.
It’s still a grand town though.

I can’t say that I’ve been to any of the places you know, and I’m pretty confident in saying that you haven’t been to any of the places that I know, but if you’re ever in Lake Havasu City, AZ, home of the London Bridge, I can certainly point you in the right direction.

Not too many good dessert type shops here. It’s hot enough where you’d think there would be many. For example, right now, it’s 110°F out there. Perfect weather for a sundae. 🙂

I stayed at the Park Hotel when I was in Kilarney about 6 years ago, and Breakfasts and Dinners are included and were excellent. Dinners were three courses and dessert. I rememeber the smoked salmon and the game dishes to this day.
